This is a quick “how to” on getting the Samsung Z500 (currently the smallest 3G phone in the UK) to work with Mac OSX - specifically tested with 10.4.6, on a 2 GhZ Intel Core Duo MacBook Pro.

  1. Download This modem script file, which works with the Z500, it is a .sit file, so you might need to ge the free “Stuffit Expander” to uncompress and place the file in /Library/Modem Scripts.
  2. Turn Bluetooth on on the phone (Under Settings -> Connectivity).
  3. On the MacbookPro Open System Preferences -> Bluetooth, click on add new device, follow the instructions to pair the Macbook Pro with the phone.
  4. When pairing has occured check the box: Access the internet with your phone’s data connection
  5. Also check : Use a direct, higher speed connection to reach your Internet Service Provider (GPRS, 1xRTT)
  6. Uncheck: Use with Address Book.
  7. Click continue, then fill in Username as “user” and the password as “pass” and the CID String as “orangeinternet”.
  8. In the Modem Script field select SamsungD500.
  9. To connect, go to System Preferences -> Network, highlight bluetooth and click connect, in the Bluetooth section of the “Internet Connect” dialogue the “Telephone number” will be orangeinternet, and user/pass will be the username password.
  10. Note that on the phone, the Bluetooth service, under Settings -> Connectivity -> Bluetooth has to be set to “Serial port”.
  11. While untested, other networks ought to work with the following settings:

    Network CID String User Pass
    O2 (contract) mobile.o2.co.uk web password
O2 (contract, faster) mobile.o2.co.uk faster password
    O2 UK (pre-pay) payandgo.o2.co.uk payandgo payandgo
Orange (pay monthly) orangeinternet user pass
Orange (Pay and Go) orangewap Multimedia Orange

    T-Mobile general.t-mobile.uk user pass
    Virgin Mobile goto.virginmobile.com user [blank]

    Vodafone (contract) internet web webs

    Hi,

The link to the modem script seems to not be working.
Is there another place I can get the D500 script?

    Thank you.

Brilliant!!. I used the script and the instructions on my Samsung Z400 and it works fine so far (though I will try and find the proper script if one exists). The whole process took a few minutes and follows three visits to different Orange outlets and two calls to the Orange Technical Enquires which had cost me plenty in time but nothing in results. Thanks.

This works great with a D600 on vodafone as well. Thanks very much!
